    - Ming Thein is the brainchild behind his eponymous brand, MING. Known for their incredibly well-conceived, small-batch productions, the firm launched the MING 18.01 in 2020, an unconventional diver’s watch that ticks all the boxes in terms of form and function.

    - Instantly recognisable as a MING watch, it bears the signature notes found across the brand, including its flared lugs, an architectural dial, the use of super Luminova and a general minimalistic design. A dive watch with an incredible water resistance of 1000 meters, it wears comfortably on the wrist thanks to its featherlight grade 5 titanium case that measures only 40mm in diameter and 12.9mm thick. The bezel is made in stainless steel with a DLC coating. The dial is also impressively designed with a two level sapphire construction with HyCeram Super-LumiNova XI (a luminous ceramic composite). The caseback has six deep holes milled out for the caseback wrench providing excellent grip for watchmakers, engraved along the outer ring of the caseback is a quirky crab symbol that denotes as an element that reference the aquatic theme.

    - Easily dressed up or down to accommodate any lifestyle, the present MING 18.01 H41 is offered with a stunning bracelet, delivered in “like-new” condition with its original accessories.

  • Artist Biography

    Ming

    Malaysian • 1986

Ming Thein is the vision behind MING: he has a diverse background that bridges both the creative and corporate, with more than 10 years in strategy and finance and 20 years as a photographer, with seven as a full time professional. Ming was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 1986, educated in Australia, New Zealand, and finally graduated with a masters’ degree in theoretical physics from Balliol College, Oxford at the age of 16.

Somewhere during the mechanical portions of his degree, he contracted the watch bug made worse by a Lange 1815 graduation gift from his parents. It would follow through his early career at KPMG and The Boston Consulting Group, where the generosity of online collector communities allowed him access to their events and watches. His contributions to the community were driven by knowledge (including numerous attempts at movement design) and photography: capturing a personal interpretation of a watch, Ming in a way made them his own and shared a different vision with the collector’s community
