Born 1983 in Los Angeles, California, Nick Doyle is a multidisciplinary artist who draws from the visual vocabulary of popular culture to call attention to themes of consumerism, Americana, masculinity, and shame. The artist’s practice encompasses sculpture, painting, mechanical motion and video. In 2007, he began to work as a studio assistant for Tom Sachs – an experience which shaped his interest in the physicality of found materials. Through the artist’s use of denim, a textile deeply enmeshed with the myth and idealism of American identity, he encourages the viewer to look beyond the aged, cool-toned facade of his compositions to examine the nation’s lineage in a critical light. In recent years, Nick Doyle has employed a road trip motif in his works to explore the Rugged Individualism of contemporary America.
Nick Doyle lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. The artist is represented by Perrotin Gallery. His recent solo exhibitions include American Blues (2024) at Perrotin Tokyo and Gentle Giants (2023) at Stems Gallery, Brussels.
