    - Unofficially known as a “Phantom Speedy”, the Speedmaster Professional Moonphase with an aventurine dial does, in fact, exist and is certainly no ordinary Moonwatch. Boasting a mesmerising darkened aventurine dial, the deep blue canvas with scintillating specks of glitter mirrors the dreamy starlit nightscape of 20th July 1969, when Apollo 11 ventured into space.

    - Released at Baselworld 2012, the present reference received instant recognition for the playful juxtaposition between the unusual pairing of an elegant stone dial and a rugged sports watch chronograph layout. Above the small seconds, 30-minute and 12-hour registers, the date and moon phase are indicated in the fourth subdial positioned at 12 o’clock. The chronograph hand accompanies the central hands and can be read against the Tachymeter ring to calculate various speeds. The black ceramic bezel is mounted on a 44.25mm stainless steel case and complimented by a matching bracelet. At the heart of this timepiece is a manually-wound cal.1866 which can be admired through its sapphire caseback.

    - Beautifully preserved in excellent overall condition, the present Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch Moonphase ref. 311.30.44.32.01.001 is highly collectable and will please collectors of rare and exotic sports watches.

  • Artist Biography

    Omega

    Swiss • 1848

Omega's rich history begins with its founder, Louis Brandt, who established the firm in 1848 in La Chaux de Fonds. In 1903, the company changed its name to Omega, becoming the only watch brand in history to have been named after one its own movements. A full-fledged manufacturer of highly accurate, affordable and reliable watches, its sterling reputation enabled them to be chosen as the first watch company to time the Olympic Games beginning in 1932. Its continued focus on precision and reliability ultimately led their Speedmaster chronograph wristwatch to be chosen by NASA in 1965 — the first watch worn on the moon.

Key models sought-after by collectors include their first, oversized water-resistant chronograph — the reference 2077, early Speedmaster models such as the CK 2915 and 2998, military-issued versions of the Seamaster and oversized chronometer models such as those fitted with their prestigious caliber 30T2Rg.
