- The Omega Speedmaster ref. 145.012-67 holds a special place in the hearts of vintage Speedmaster enthusiasts. Produced in 1968 with a serial range of 26.076.XXX to 26.079.XXX, this reference is estimated to have had around 3,000 pieces manufactured. However, a handful of these watches were assembled with a distinctive orange chronograph hand, earning them the coveted "Ultraman Speedmaster" moniker due to their appearance in the Japanese television series "The Return Of Ultraman".
- In 2018, Omega paid tribute to the original Ultraman Speedmaster with the launch of the Speedy Tuesday Ultraman and it was all sold out in just a couple of hours. This reissue model is almost identical to the vintage reference, featuring an orange center seconds hand, a black and orange tachymeter bezel, and orange hour markers. The "Speedmaster" signature is also stamped in a matching orange hue instead of the standard white.
- The Speedy Tuesday Ultraman takes the homage further with a hidden feature – the small seconds register at 9 o'clock bears a subtle imprint of Ultraman's head, which is most prominent under UV light. To complement this nod to the TV series, the watch comes with a 2-in-1 UV light and retractable spring bar-removal pen, modeled after the "Beta Capsule" used by Ultraman's human host to transform.
- Another vintage-inspired element is the "dot over 90" bezel, which was used on pre-1970s Speedmasters. To complete the retro aesthetic, Omega has included both a black and orange NATO strap, as well as a leather strap with orange stitching.
- Delivered in “new-old-stock" condition, the present watch numbered 1,883 of a limited edition of 2,012 is accompanied by its full set of original accessories.
Omega's rich history begins with its founder, Louis Brandt, who established the firm in 1848 in La Chaux de Fonds. In 1903, the company changed its name to Omega, becoming the only watch brand in history to have been named after one its own movements. A full-fledged manufacturer of highly accurate, affordable and reliable watches, its sterling reputation enabled them to be chosen as the first watch company to time the Olympic Games beginning in 1932. Its continued focus on precision and reliability ultimately led their Speedmaster chronograph wristwatch to be chosen by NASA in 1965 — the first watch worn on the moon.
Key models sought-after by collectors include their first, oversized water-resistant chronograph — the reference 2077, early Speedmaster models such as the CK 2915 and 2998, military-issued versions of the Seamaster and oversized chronometer models such as those fitted with their prestigious caliber 30T2Rg.
