  • Catalogue Essay

Produced very briefly from 1996 to 1999, the reference 5096 is characterised by a slightly larger 33mm round three-body case with the iconic polished flat bezel and downturned lugs, a classic design that perpetuates the traditional aesthetics of the Patek Philippe Calatrava which represents the pinnacle of elegance.

The yellow gold case of the present example is stamped with the casemaker key number 28, indicating that the case was created by the brand’s trusted casemaker Ateliers Réunis. Their business was acquired by Patek Philippe in 1975, with their production was housed at the building that became The Patek Philippe Museum today.

To the collectors’ delight, the movement is proudly displayed via the transparent case back, allowing one to closely admire the meticulous finishing and decoration on the movement which is stamped with the Geneva seal.

Offered in excellent overall condition, and complete with its full set of accessories, the present specimen exudes a timeless elegance, and it is a rare gem that would surely appeal to the watch connoisseurs with exquisite taste.

Patek is also well-known for their classically styled, time-only "Calatrava" dress watches, and the "Nautilus," an iconic luxury sports watch first introduced in 1976 as the reference 3700 that is still in production today.
