Set within a serene library, The Gaze depicts a young child whose focus has shifted from the book in his hands to a space beyond the canvas. Whilst the direction of light within the painting might suggest the child gazes through a window, it is in fact an opposite void, an enigma that commands their attention. A monkey covering its eyes, embodying the principle of “see no evil,” stands on the bookshelf behind the child, safeguarding against harm. Crafted with meticulous strokes, this artwork explores the impact of life’s choices and the power of contemplation.
