Vacheron Constantin has long been known for producing exquisite and highly complicated timepieces since the firm was founded in 1755. Considered as the world’s oldest manufacturer of timepieces, Vacheron Constantin has developed a competitive advantage over others. With an archive that dates back a couple of hundred years, the firm is able to produce in-house movements inspired by the past, and develop reiterations of beautiful examples from the past.
The Vacheron Constantin Malte Openworked Tourbillon reflects exactly the capabilities of the firm. The present piece is a wonderful specimen that combines both traditional approaches to craftsmanship with modern precise finishing. The result is a beautiful skeletonized wristwatch with engraved bridges to reflect the past, fitted with a tourbillon to display the capabilities of the modern manufacture today. The bridges, mainplate and barrel are hand engraved by Vacheron Constantin artisans who are highly skilled with extreme level of precision to execute such finish. The tourbillon cage features the Maltese cross which is also the logo of Vacheron Constantin, adding an exemplified element of attractiveness to the watch.
The present specimen is presented in overall excellent condition and further accompanied by the original certificate that is retailer stamped and dated when it was purchased by the original owner in 2008. Furthermore, it is delivered with the full set of accessories that came with the watch when it was originally purchased by the original owner.
The world's oldest watch brand in continuous operation since its founding in 1755, Vacheron Constantin was the first watch company to manufacture movements with interchangeable parts beginning in 1839. Vacheron's watches are admired for their Latin-influenced case designs, well-balanced proportions and exquisitely finished movements of the highest quality. The Geneva-based manufacturer is known for their highly complicated masterpieces, including the King Farouk Grand Complication made in 1935, the Tour de l'Ile that was the most complicated serially produced wristwatch when introduced in 2005 and the 57260 — the world’s most complicated watch — made in 2015.
Key vintage models include minute repeating wristwatches such as the references 4261, chronographs such as the references 4178 and 6087 and the oversized Cioccolotone models such as ref. 4737. Collectors also appreciate Vacheron's Chronometer Royal pocket and wristwatches, as well as the '222,' the brand's first luxury sports watch produced from 1977 through 1984.
