John McCord and Rebekah Bowling, Co-Heads of Phillips’ Day Sale, said, “We are thrilled with today’s results, which mark the highest total for a Day Sale in Phillips’ history. The auction was led by an extraordinary price for a work by Keith Haring – which, at $1.34 million, almost doubled its high estimate – and achieved strong prices for John Chamberlain, Yayoi Kusama, Max Ernst, Henry Moore and Hans Hoffman. We are also delighted with new records for Jaume Plensa, John Little, Yoan Capote, Sue Williams, and Stanley Whitney. After posting the highest total ever for a Phillips Evening Sale in London this March, followed by a record-breaking sale for our New Now auction in London and the highest total ever for our Editions auction in April, Phillips is clearly reaching new heights. We look forward to our 20th Century & Contemporary Evening Sale tomorrow.”
