GENEVA – 19 MARCH 2018 – Phillips in Association with Bacs & Russo is delighted to announce a selection of highlights to be offered during the weekend of May 12th and 13th at the Hôtel la Réserve in Geneva, Switzerland. The exciting weekend will kick off with Daytona Ultimatum, a thematic auction composed solely of the most exceptional Rolex Daytona watches. This tightly curated sale will offer 32 of the finest, rarest and best-preserved Rolex Daytona wristwatches known to exist. The Daytona theme sale will be immediately followed by The Geneva Watch Auction: SEVEN. Taking place over the two days, the sale will feature approximately 200 lots of the world’s finest collectors’ watches. The auction will be led by a fresh-to-market and possibly unique Patek Philippe Reference 2499/100 with a champagne dial. Also offered in this sale will be two exceptional, yet very different versions of Rolex’s iconic Reference 6062 triple calendar with moonphase. Finally, we are proud to unveil a superb selection of rare Breguet wristwatches, coming from different private collections, having spontaneously come together to offer a wonderful snapshot of the company’s manufacturing history.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM DAYTONA ULTIMATUM

Auction: 12 May 2018 | 4pm

Location: Hôtel La Réserve, 301 Route de Lausanne, Geneva

On view will be the featured top lot – the only known vintage white gold Rolex Daytona - “The Unicorn” reference 6265 previously announced here last week. In addition, Phillips in Association with Bacs & Russo is delighted to present the following, exceptional highlights that will also be offered on 12 May:

 ROLEX Cosmograph Daytona
Model name: ‘The Ancestor’
Reference: 6239
Estimate: CHF 100,000 – 200,000

The present watch is amongst the earliest reference 6239s ever produced whilst also remaining in breathtaking condition.  Referred to by the community as the "Double Swiss Underline", it displays all the correct attributes of this popular and very rare model. The Mk 1 bezel is calibrated to 300 units per hour and features small hash marks. The black "Double Swiss Underline" dial is most compelling, featuring two separate ‘Swiss’ designations at 6 o’clock. Most striking is the "underline" below the Rolex Cosmograph signature, which scholars believe was used it was to signify a transition from radium to tritium luminous material on the dial. Appealing to scholars and purists “in the know”, it delights not only with its rarity, but also with its exceptional state of preservation and originality.

ROLEX Cosmograph Daytona
Model name: ‘The Exotic Flat’
Reference: 6262
Estimate: CHF 150,000 – 300,000

Fitted with a rare variant of the exotic, “Paul Newman” dial, the present watch is remarkable for its astoundingly pristine condition and wonderful provenance. Consigned by the grandchildren of the original owner, a prominent physician in Buenos Aires, this watch was a present from the family of a patient whose life he saved. Given to his son as a wedding gift and then subsequently bequeathed to the son’s three children, they were incredibly proud of this Daytona and hardly ever wore it. Retaining its original factory caseback sticker, this tri-color reference 6262’s dial features relatively “flat” subsidiary registers, which is a particularly rare exotic dial variant.

ROLEX Cosmograph Daytona
Model name: ‘The Winner’
Reference: 116520
Estimate: CHF 50,000 – 100,000

Perfectly exemplifying Rolex’s longstanding sponsorship of international motor races, the present watch was presented to David Brabham upon his team’s victory at the 2009 24 Hours of Le Mans. Alongside drivers Alexander Wurz and Marc Gene, Brabham drove for the Peugeot Sport team, completing 382 laps. What truly sets this watch apart is the “WINNER 2009 24 Heures Du Mans’” engraving on the case back. It is furthermore accompanied by a Rolex guarantee confirming the sale to Les 24 Heures du Mans 2009 in May 2009 and Brabham’s signed boot.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE GENEVA WATCH AUCTION: SEVEN

PATEK PHILIPPE
Reference: 2499
Estimate: CHF 800,000-1,600,000

The Patek Philippe reference 2499, in any dial or case combination, can be considered one of, if not the most iconic and desirable trophy watches to crown any collection thanks to its large 37.5mm case, complicated movement and ultimate rarity. Never before seen publically, the present timepiece is the only one known with champagne colored dial. This original dial was made upon special order and is accompanied by the original certificate and a series of correspondence between the original owner, the retailer and Patek Philippe between 1979 and 1981.

ROLEX
Reference: 6062 Stainless Steel (circa 1953)
Estimate: CHF 700,000-1,400,000

And

Reference: 6062 Yellow Gold (circa 1952)

Estimate: CHF 400,000-800,000

The Rolex Reference 6062 was introduced in the early 1950s and is one of only two Rolex models ever to feature a full calendar paired with the indication of the phases of the moon. This timepiece is a condensate of Rolex's genetic code: the iconic Oyster case, a Rolex "perpetual" in-house movement and of course the ultimate rarity of a full calendar complication featuring a moonphase display. The reference 6062 embodies what Rolex stands for without a shred of compromise.

These two different versions: stainless steel and in yellow gold, other than their superlative condition and reference number, share little as the version in yellow gold is flamboyant, unabashed and wonderfully sophisticated whereas the model in stainless steel is tastefully restrained and seductive.

BREGUET: Wristwatches Selection

One of the greatest watchmakers in history, Abraham-Louis Breguet was a visionary, not only in terms of mechanics but also design. Installed in Paris in the mid-18th century, his successors remained in the French capital, which explains the Parisian flair and charisma of the timepieces we are proud to offer. This selection of 12 wristwatches (and 3 pocket watches) from the 20th Century comprises timepieces rarely if ever seen. An alarm watch, a diver chronograph, a diver’s watch and a choice of four Type XX chronographs including an extremely rare version in yellow gold, are just some of the watches on offer.
