Cary Leibowitz and Kelly Troester, Worldwide Co-Heads of Editions and Deputy Chairpersons, Americas, said, “Following the enthusiasm this spring, we were thrilled to see the sustained demand for Andy Warhol’s Moonwalk in our October auction, which achieved $762,000 against the low estimate of $500,000. This new record price for the pair comes just six months after setting the world record for a single Moonwalk in our April auction. Warhol’s complete set, Cowboys and Indians, sold for the second highest price at auction, setting the stage for a spirited bidding war on the set’s accompanying trial proof, Sitting Bull, which sold for a record breaking $190,500, more than six times the low estimate. We were also honored to have been entrusted with the sale of several esteemed private collections; the Nathaniel Friedman Estate, featuring exceptional works by Henry Moore, sold 94% by lot and property from the Carole and Alex Rosenberg Collection sold 90% by lot, setting new records for Lee Krasner and Willem de Kooning. Punctuating 2024’s outstanding offering of editions and works on paper in New York, the impressive results for works by Modern and Contemporary masters, including Joan Miró, Roy Lichtenstein, Joan Mitchell, Keith Haring, Kurt Schwitters, and Ellsworth Kelly, demonstrates the worldwide commitment to the medium.”
