Phillips’ Modern & Contemporary Art: Evening & Day Sale Achieves £13 Million
London, 27 June 2024 Sale Total: £13,054,965 / $16,500,170 / €15,430,969
Olivia Thornton, Phillips’ Head of Modern & Contemporary Art, Europe, said, “Against the backdrop of an important month in the cultural calendar, our team assembled a balanced, curated June sale that featured a wonderful cross-section of both blue-chip masters and the most sought-after Contemporary names. Leading the auction was George Condo’s Green and Purple Head Composition, which realised over £1 million, while Michaela Yearwood-Dan’s That your lovin’ makes it better had strong international bidding, selling for over three times its estimate at £241,300. We also saw robust prices for photography, with both Cindy Sherman and Andreas Gursky figuring prominently in the top ten. The enthusiasm we have seen over the past few weeks in London carried into the saleroom today, which included participation from nearly 50 countries spanning four continents.”
