This limited edition ‘Bolotas’ armchair is a striking work of contemporary design, rooted in its designers’ ethos. Created in 2015 by the renowned Brazilian design duo Fernando and Humberto Campana, it is a perfect example of the brothers' unique style, which combines traditional craftsmanship with innovative materials and techniques.

The Estudio Campana explain that “the ‘Bolotas’ collection (2015) was initially inspired by stone walls, but the name came from the first prototype that was soft and round like an acorn (‘bolotas' in Portuguese).” This remarkable work is in fact made from pillows of sheep skin wool with a tactile and inviting surface, making it a delight to sit in. The elegant feet that support it are made of resilient Brazilian ipe wood.

The Campana brothers are known for their unconventional design language, which often involves incorporating found objects, recycled or organic materials into their designs. Their style is heavily influenced by their Brazilian heritage, as well as their interest in the natural world. The Estudio’s work features captivating shapes, patterns and materials that have a tangible quality as seen in this striking armchair.

Phillips would like to thank Daniel Kini of Estudio Campana for his assistance cataloguing the present lot.
