Catalogue Essay
A flagbearer for German watchmaking, A Lange & Sohne is known from the moment it was revived on the 24th October 1994 for its superlative finishing and retaining the iconic large double-window date indicator. Of the four watches that was launched then, only the Lange 1 remains in the catalogue to this very day, a legacy that places it squarely in the pantheon of all-time classic watches.
The Lange 1 Time Zone, launched in 2005 and presented here, is an evolution of this icon. The design stays true to the Lange 1 blueprint with its offset date, time, and power reserve displays; but it manages to integrate additional date/night indicators and a second timezone display neatly into the package. The overall result is a sophisticated timepiece that is a joy to travel with, the perfect watch for the elegant traveling lady or gentleman. Discontinued recently in 2020, the firm released an upgraded Lange 1 Timezone fitted with the firm's new cal. L141.1.
Presented in pristine condition, the present lot includes all of its accompanying accessories.

A. Lange & Söhne
German | 1845Originally founded in 1845 by Ferdinand Adolph Lange in Glashütte, Dresden, Germany, the firm established an entire watchmaking culture and industry in Glashütte. The brand quickly became Germany's finest watchmaker, first creating dependable, easy-to-repair watches before going on to produce some of the world's finest complicated pocket watches, including Grande Sonnerie watches, tourbillon watches and Grande Complications.
On the final day of World War II, their factories were destroyed by Russian bombers, and in 1948 the brand was confiscated by the Soviet Union. Following the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1990, Ferdinand's great grandson Walter Lange re-established the brand with the objective to once again produce top-quality luxury watches. Now part of the Richemont Group, its original vintage and modern creations are highly coveted by collectors. Key models from the modern era include the Lange 1, Pour Le Mérite Tourbillon and the Zeitwerk.
