Catalogue Essay
Breguet's Classique models represent the ideal face of time: legible, precise and with a refined style. Whether extra-thin models or complications, the models from this collection faithfully reflect the technical rules, the art of watchmaking and the traditional values of the Maison Breguet. The present ref. 5317 was launched at Baselworld in 2005. Sporting a 39mm platinum case, the tourbillon model was also available in pink gold. Executed at 6 o’clock aperture is the tri-spoke tourbillon cage anchored with a micro-bevelled bridge with two cobalt blued steel screws. Functioned as the seconds hand at the same time, the overall symmetrical gold hand-made dial is decorated with Clous de Paris guilloché. Its hour track in satin brushed finish featuring the secret signatures at the top reflects to light beautifully, creating an understated contrast with its white dial. Featuring a 5-day power reserve indicator, the markers are playful with a mixture of graphics and Roman numerals. The beauty of the movement can be admired on the reverse, entirely hand chiselled with decorations, the 120 hour power reserve calibre 587 features a skeletonized rotor with an oversized script B for Breguet.

Preserved in superb condition, the present Breguet ref. 5317 is accompanied with its full set of accessories.

Breguet

Swiss | 1775
Established in 1775 by Abraham Louis Breguet, widely considered the greatest watchmaker of all time, the storied brand continues to thrive in the modern era, creating exceptional high-end watches as the Swatch Group's premier prestige brand. Some of the most important and lasting inventions in watchmaking are attributed to Abraham Louis Breguet, including the tourbillon, shock resistance and the use of hammers and gongs employed in nearly all minute repeating watches made since.

Eighteenth and nineteenth century Breguet pocketwatches are especially sought-after by collectors, and many of them were made for the elite of European society, including Napoléon and Marie Antoinette. Key wristwatches from the twentieth century include oversized dress watches, two-register chronographs, triple calendars and Type XX aviator's chronographs made for the French military and civilians.
