Catalogue Essay
- Founded in England in 2004, Christopher Ward can be considered to be probably one of the earliest "microbrands" within the watchmaking community. In 2014, by the company's 10th anniversary, it merged with Synergies Horlogères (SH) a Swiss manufacturing partner, to vertically integrate its manufacturing process.
- Released in 2022, probably as the world's most affordable Swiss-Made mechanical chiming watch, the Christopher Ward C1 Bel Canto is nothing short of a mechanically impressive and superbly finished timepiece. The timepiece exudes a futuristic and three-dimensional ambiance, notably omitting the presence of the words "Christopher Ward" on the dial, relying solely on the design itself.
- The Bel Canto features exposed mechanics that reveal a chiming mechanism, charging up and striking once at the top of every hour.
-The initial limited edition of 300 watches, featuring a captivating and stunning sunburst blue "Azzuro" dial, completely sold out within eight hours, after which collectors eagerly joined a waitlist. Just four days later, a variant with a green dial, the "Verde" version like the present example and still limited to 300 pieces, was introduced and promptly sold out allegedly within three hours.
- Featuring a 41mm diameter titanium case, the timepiece is well balanced and accurately finished. Showcasing a mini sub-dial at 12 o'clock, the intricate mechanics on the dial are presented against its green backdrop that dynamically shifts in the light.
- Exposed gears, bridges, and screws feature polished surfaces and a meticulous anglage with a level of finishing typically uncommon at this price point. The gong gracefully wraps around the dial's edge, and the hammer, also impeccably polished, is poised near the nine o'clock position, ready to strike.
- Preserved in the excellent overall condition and numbered 261 of a limited edition of 300 pieces, the present Christopher Ward C1 Bel Canto is further accompanied by its full set of accessories.
