Good To Know:

- Number 22 of a limited edition of 25 pieces
- Made for the 25th Anniversary of the historical caliber 6870
- Hand made lacquer dial by Urushi Master Isshuu Tamura
- Preserved in excellent condition

Produced to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Seiko’s ultra-thin caliber 6870, the reference GBAQ958 was issued in a highly exclusive limited edition of just 25 pieces. The present watch is housed in an elegant ultra-slim 18k pink gold case and features a hand-crafted dial that elevates it far beyond the realm of a traditional dress watch. The movement, hand-assembled by the Shizukuishi Watch Studio, is visible through the sapphire caseback.

Executed using multiple traditional Japanese decorative techniques, the jet-black Urushi lacquer dial is adorned with gold and platinum Maki-e (the phoenix) and inlaid mother-of-pearl called Raden. At its center is the remarkable Taka Maki-e Phoenix, created by Isshu Tamura, Seiko’s foremost Urushi lacquer master, whose use of mineral-infused lacquer gives the motif a striking three-dimensional presence.

Symbolizing renewal and resilience, the phoenix, Hounou, is shown flying against the wind, rendered through shimmering mother-of-pearl, representing the Empress of Japan. Number 22 of 25, the present example is preserved in excellent condition and is accompanied by its original box and warranty, offering a rare opportunity to acquire an exceptional work of Japanese horological artistry. Given its hand-crafted nature, no two dials are exactly alike, lending each example an almost unique character.
