Catalogue Essay
In 1948, Patek Philippe inaugurated its Electronic Division, with the goal of innovating photoelectric and electronic timekeeping technology. In 1955, the firm showcased a solar-powered photoelectric clock at the World Symposium.

The present table clock from circa 1967 with an elegant taste of Art Deco appeal features a large solar panel on the top of the gilt brass case. A battery system is also provided for back up, further illustrating how intelligent and ahead of its time this clock was. The dial of the clock is fitted with an attractive rich black dial.

According to scholarship, a total of 31 examples were dispatched in 9 variants. A first of its kind to appear at Phillips in such configuration, this rare solar clock is offered by the family of the original owner and accompanied by the original Patek Philippe red box. It was sold in the late 1960s by the well-known Patek Philippe distributor, Guillermin & Mollet, in Paris. The present desk clock would be a great addition to enhance any interior of an office or a living room.
