The error dial, a rare occasion found in only a handful of high-end mechanical watches. What makes it particularly fascinating is its honest acknowledgment of human error in dial making: even master artisans working under magnification can overlook details. Because of this inherent human element and the extraordinary complexity involved, dials featuring such an error indicator are exceptionally scarce.
The striking white gold Patek Philippe Ref. 5200 presented here is one such example. Instantly recognizable by its iconic Gondolo case shape, it features the signature blue dial with an eight-day power reserve, polished Dauphine hands, and faceted applied indexes — everything one expects from the manufacture, except for one deliberate and quirky omission: the Patek Philippe logo was never printed on the dial at the factory. Launched in 2013 to replace the earlier Ref. 5100, the 5200 is powered by the new in-house Calibre 28-20 REC 8J IRM C J, equipped with advanced Silinvar components, a Pulsomax escapement, and a friction-free, lubrication-free lever and escape wheel that allows the day and date to advance simultaneously within three milliseconds at midnight.
An extremely rare sight, this well-preserved error dial example is fresh-to-the-market and complete with its Certificate and accessories.
