The “fifty twenty” is a very intriguing reference. Manufactured in the mid Nineties there have only been 7 other examples in white gold to have appeared on the market in the last twenty years. At the time of its launch reference 5020 was too avant-garde for Patek Philippe’s clientele and failed to attract sufficient interest in order to become a success. Consequently, production remained rather small. Today, its cushion-shaped case form is much more popular and, despite mechanically being identical to its more classic sister model reference 3970, it enjoys much greater popularity within the collector’s community. The present example in white gold was never before offered at auction.
