Catalogue Essay
"Men in the cities grew directly out of a small relief that I made from a Fassbinder film, An American Soldier. It was taken from the scene at the end of the movie where two gangsters get shot. In its image it embedded a high compact kind of bang; at the same time it has this incredibly fluid grace, the speed of grace ... It seems like the gestures of Men in the Cities are very much about the time we live in, that "jerking" into now."
