The world‑time complication — a romantic expression of travel — was developed by Louis Cottier in the 1930s. The modern interpretation of the complication is demonstrated by Vacheron Constantin’s reference 48250 “Evasion” World‑Time, introduced in 1996 for the Japanese market, was produced in limited runs: 100 pieces in white gold, 100 in yellow gold and later 100 in pink gold. The present 37 mm white gold example is numbered 46 of 100.
Drawing inspiration from early world timers of the 1920s and 1930s, the 48250 translates that heritage into a refined contemporary package: a sleek polished bezel, teardrop lugs and a dial layout that balances vintage character with modern legibility. The off‑white two‑tone 24‑hour ring clearly separates day and night, while the bezel is engraved with 24 cities for straightforward reference to global time zones. A modern date window at 3 o’clock discreetly complements the dial without disrupting the overall composition.
This example’s restrained finishing and limited production make it a highly collectible world timer for discerning enthusiasts. As interest in rare, historically minded complicated wristwatches continues to grow, this ref. 48250 stands out as an elegant and desirable example of Vacheron Constantin’s mastery of classical complications.
Vacheron Constantin

The Geneva-based manufacturer is known for their highly complicated masterpieces, including the King Farouk Grand Complication made in 1935, the Tour de l'Ile that was the most complicated serially produced wristwatch when introduced in 2005 and the 57260 — the world’s most complicated watch — made in 2015.
Key vintage models include minute repeating wristwatches such as the references 4261, chronographs such as the references 4178 and 6087 and the oversized Cioccolotone models such as ref. 4737. Collectors also appreciate Vacheron's Chronometer Royal pocket and wristwatches, as well as the '222,' the brand's first luxury sports watch produced from 1977 through 1984.
