GOOD TO KNOW
• Introduced in 2007, the Observatoire was produced in an extremely limited run of approximately 50 examples
• Powered by the observatory, Peseux caliber 260
• Consigned by the family of the original owner, full collector's set
Introduced in 2007, the Observatoire was immediately met with critical acclaim, earning the prestigious “Best Men’s Watch” award at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève in the same year. Production remained exceedingly limited, with an estimated total of around 50 pieces manufactured before the model was ultimately succeeded in 2011 by the Vingt-8, which debuted Voutilainen’s in-house caliber 28.
At its heart beats the caliber 260, a mid-20th-century observatory-grade movement originally produced by Peseux. With only approximately 3,300 examples ever made and never offered for public sale, this ébauche provided an exceptional foundation for Voutilainen’s extensive modifications.
The present example is particularly distinguished within this already rare production, featuring an elegant white gold case entirely hand crafted within Voutilainen’s own workshops. In addition, the Observatoire is adorned with subtle yet highly distinctive details, including a frosted balance bridge shaped in a tapered form reminiscent of that found in Voutilainen’s original tourbillon pocket watch.
The dial is a masterclass in hand-executed guilloché, composed of two different patterns that interplay to create remarkable depth and tonal variation. Offered as a true collector’s full set, complete to the highest degree, the present watch is accompanied by its artisanally crafted wooden presentation box, two additional crocodile straps, an extra white gold deployant buckle, and its observatory chronometer certificate.
