- Adored for his quirky, bold and fun approach to watchmaking, French architect and designer Alain Silberstein is renowned for blending high horology with colourful Kandinskian aesthetics, and his timepieces are instantly recognizable by their endearing playful charm. He is one of the pioneers contributed to the revival of the mechanical watch in the 1980’s in the aftermath of the quartz crisis, and his unique designs have continued to kindle strong fondness among collectors.
- The present Krono 2 is an early example in steel from around early 1990s. Alain Silberstein utilised Japanese technology and experimented with steel cases after the initial production in brass, before finally settling on titanium for later pieces. The steel case of the present watch is further embellished with an attractive layer of patina on the caseband. The present example also has the round pushers with the triangular crown, executed in a combination of bright colours that is a signature to the brand. The round pushers were later replaced by shaped pushers as Alain Silberstein continued to modify his design, and this rare piece marks the beginning of the designer’s journey to finding his own style.
- Offered in great condition, and accompanied by the Alain Silberstein leather case, this is an extraordinary timepiece imbued with a unique artisanal flair that will undoubtedly rekindle your inner child.
