First released in 2002, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept line was initially introduced to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Royal Oak. First designed by Claude Emmenegger, the Concept certainly embraces an avant-garde appeal while retaining its iconic traits such as the octagonal-shaped bezel with naked screws. Regarded as somewhat of the platform for the firm and manufacturer to develop and innovate new concepts to be integrated into the main lines of the Royal Oak, the very first Concept piece featured a movement developed by Renaud & Papi.
For over 19 years since its introduction, the design of the Royal Oak Concept has remained similar. In 2016, the firm released the Royal Oak Concept Flying Tourbillon GMT featuring a 44mm titanium case with an attractive sandblasted finish combined with brushed casebands providing a subtle contrast against the black ceramic bezel. Featuring a practical second-time zone indicated via a rotating sapphire disc, the double-barrel partially displayed underneath provides a power reserve of 10 days.
Highly sophisticated and innovative, the present example Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept Flying Tourbillon GMT is presented first time at PHILLIPS and in excellent overall condition further accompanied by its full set of accessories including an extra crocodile leather strap. For collectors seeking an impressive tourbillon wristwatch exuding a cool appeal with high practicality, this is perhaps the perfect example to sport.
