GOOD TO KNOW
• One of a limited edition of 8 pieces made for Swiss FineTiming
• Only 1 other example has appeared at auction
• Original owner, full set, and exceptionally well-preserved
The Chronomètre Souverain by François-Paul Journe masterfully returns watchmaking to its essential roots, focusing on chronometric precision with a design that is both simple and elegant. This timepiece features only hour and minute hands, small seconds, and a power reserve indicator positioned at the technically challenging 3 o’clock position near the winding stem, showcasing the harmonious balance of every component.
Released in 2005, and featuring the ultra-thin 1304 caliber built with the precision and technical mastery of marine chronometers, the Chronomètre Souverain boasts a construction using two mainspring barrels for enhanced chronometry.
In 2008, alongside the Octa Chronographe (see previous lot), a limited edition of only 8 pieces was created for the Chicago-based American retailer, Swiss FineTiming. The dial featured whitened silver guilloché to the center of the dial, but the outer ring was changed to a black background with red numerals—a first for Journe and the CS. Only one other example has appeared at public auction, and with only 8 total examples, it is an incredibly scarce opportunity to obtain one of the rarest time-only watches from the brand.
At 40mm, it is a bold take on the classicism of the Chronomètre Souverain, and comes complete from the collection of the original owner preserved in hardly worn, outstanding condition.

F.P. Journe
Swiss | 1999Founded by watchmaker François-Paul Journe in 1999, the F.P. Journe brand is relatively young, but already is as highly regarded by collectors as many distinguished manufacturers with centuries-old heritage. In the minds of the world's savviest collectors, Journe is producing some of the finest wristwatches the market has ever seen. Mastering his craft from restoring historical timepieces, he was the first to create a wristwatch incorporating two escapements that benefit from the phenomenon of resonance — the Chronomètre à Résonance.
Key models include the Résonance, tourbillon wristwatches incorporating a remontoir and the limited edition Vagabondage series. Especially sought-after are his earliest "souscription" watches, made in 1999.
