After Pieter Bruegel, the Elder - Editions & Works on Paper New York Tuesday, April 20, 2021 | Phillips
  • Description

Johannes van Doetecum I and his brother, Lucas van Doetecum engraved and etched this plate.

One of the more intimate landscapes of the series that call to mind Flemish villages rather than Alpine heights. Oberhuber has argued that this etching reveals a higher quality than many of the others in the series, indicating perhaps the work one of the van Doetecum brothers working alone. See Oberhuber, 'Zwischen Renaissance und Barock," 1968. British Museum website
