Amalia Ulman - Paddles On London Wednesday, July 2, 2014 | Phillips
  • Provenance

    Courtesy of the Arcadia Missa

  • Catalogue Essay

Amalia Ulman's practice extends across multiple social media platforms. Her personal narrative is an essential thread between the works particularly in the way her self-image is continuously constructed and reinvented. It's not only the image that matters, but also the specific references captured in each post, including the time, location, setting, and comments. Profile Picture 03/01/14 (Gijón) is a “selfie” portrait that was posted on 3 January 2014. In addition to receiving the unique print and certificate of authenticity, the collector will be credited with owning the month of January and his or her name will be added to the image description on Ulman's Facebook profile.
