  • Catalogue Essay

    - The Royal Oak ref. 25594 is a direct descendant of the Royal Oak Day Date ref. 5572 debuted in 1983. Developed the same time but presented a year later in 1984, the ref. 25594 features an additional moon phase on the dial and remained in the brand's catalogue until 2006. According to Audemars Piguet, there are approximately 6,534 Royal Oak Day Date Moon Phase 25594 made, nearly half of them are crafted in steel (ST), 27% are in two-town steel and yellow gold (SA) and 24% were produced in solely yellow gold (BA). Only 19 white gold (BC) are listed with one example in pink gold (OR).

    - In recent years, the mid-size Royal Oak Day-Date has become more sought-after, not to mention more valuable. Incredibly well-thought-out, this articulate design is balanced in proportions and highly distinctive, thanks to its Owl-like layout of the dial. Further to this, the bracelet, bezel, and sub-dials chapter rings interact tastefully against each other, as they are in a uniform silver hue, providing a subtle contrast against the white textured dial. At 36mm, collectors have noted that this mid-size reference wears larger on the wrist than their dimensions would suggest.

    - The present Royal Oak Day Date 25594ST is powered by the automatic cal. 2124/2825, based on a Jaeger-LeCoultre ébauche. The movement is concealed behind a closed caseback which has the signature “Royal Oak” engraved on the back. Ultimately, this timepiece is an excellent representative of the neo-vintage period, fusing both leisure and luxury with a practical complication.

    Audemars Piguet

    Swiss • 1881

A specialist in the manufacture of complications since it was established in 1881, Audemars Piguet never ceases to impress with a rich history of creating bold, even audacious, timepieces underpinned by traditional watchmaking at its finest. This Le Brassus-based Swiss manufacturer is one of only two major manufacturers still owned by the founding family. Since its earliest days, AP is considered a leader in the field of minute repeaters and grande complication pocket and wristwatches. The brand is devoted to preserving the history of watchmaking in the Vallée de Joux, showcased at their superb museum in Le Brassus.

Today, the brand is best known for its Royal Oak models, a revolutionary luxury sports watch launched in 1972. Other key models include early minute repeating wristwatches, vintage chronograph wristwatches, such as the oversized reference 5020, perpetual calendar watches and the Royal Oak Offshore, first introduced in 1993.
