The tourbillon regulator was first patented by Abraham Louis Breguet on the 26th June 1801 that would last 10 years. With a focus on compensating gravitational inconsistency, the escapement a comprises of the entire mechanism complied into one component, such as the balance and spring, level and escapement wheel. The traditional tourbillon escapement completes one full rotation in each minute. With the main components of an escapement combined into one carriage, the flaws are regularly repeated within the 1-minute rotation of the escapement. Simultaneously, the balance pivots perform a constant change of point of contact and therefore positively resulted with an enhanced lubrication of the escapement.

With advanced innovative micro engineering, the tourbillon escapement featured in Breguet watches nowadays is further enhanced and refined for improved efficiency as well as a tribute to the roots of the elegant component first patented by the firm two centuries ago. With tremendous input, the double tourbillon was born. With a pair of tourbillon regulators features in the movement and displayed on the dial, the regulator rotates on the hour axis. Working separately, the tourbillon is only connected by differential gears and completes a full rotation in twelve hours. The hour hand is mounted on the bridge connecting the two regulators and the minutes are indicated by a hand positioned in the center.

The present example of a Breguet Double Tourbillon ref. 5347 in platinum is presented in excellent overall condition and an opportunity for collectors to acquire an outstanding wristwatch derived from the original firm who innovated the tourbillon regulator.
