    - Introduced in the late 1970s as a response to the quartz crisis, the Tank Must de Cartier collection is a diffusion line that leverages the iconic silhouette of the Cartier Tank Louis alongside Cartier’s legendary branding, offering customers the same distinguished look at a more accessible price point.

    - The Tank Must collection primarily features a sterling silver case, often electroplated in 18K yellow gold, resulting in a more economical watch without compromising aesthetics. Offered here is a pair of Must de Cartier Tank watches in bare sterling silver, showcasing a stunning salmon dial that was launched in 1999 as a limited edition release of just 100 pieces each.

    - This release commemorated the grand reopening of the pivotal Cartier boutique at 13 rue de la Paix, Paris, following extensive renovations, as well as the boutique’s 100th anniversary in 1999. Louis Cartier, a key figure in the brand’s success, played a significant role in convincing his father to relocate their shop to this prestigious address in 1899, where the brand would establish its roots in the refined elegance of central Paris.

    - To further honor the 100th anniversary of Cartier’s flagship location, the number “13” is prominently displayed at 12 o’clock on the dials, and the phrase “13 rue de la Paix, 1899 – 1999” is engraved on the casebacks, serving as a lasting reminder of Cartier’s most important location.

    Cartier

    French

With the Constitution of 1848 came a new standard for luxury in France. Founded one year prior by Louis-Francois Cartier, the house of Cartier was one of the first to use platinum in jewelry making. This incredibly expensive material became the stepping-stone for Cartier to experiment in form, mechanisms and attitude. It helped men move from pocket watches to wristwatches, effectively making the watch much more functional and prominent in a man's overall wardrobe.

Cartier did not only touch on functionality. Inspired by a commissioned painting by George Barbier featuring a black panther at the feet of an elegantly bejeweled woman, Cartier began incorporating wild animals in his designs—most notably, Cartier Panthère rings, bangle bracelets and watches. Yet it wasn't until the late 1960s that the house of Cartier debuted their iconic yellow and rose gold LOVE collection, which includes the famous bracelet that only a special screwdriver can open.
