This is my favourite version of Cartier's Ronde, from the Collection Prive, cased in platinum with guilloche and a rosette in the center of the dial. I love the form of this watch. It is surprisingly thin with short, rounded lugs that somehow are both elegant and endearing at the same time. - Mark Cho

    - The present timepiece is an exquisite Ronde Louis Cartier wristwatch from the Maison’s esteemed Privé Collection.

    - Drawing from the style of rounded examples in the 1930s, the Ronde Louis Cartier was introduced in the mid 2000s with a contemporary 33mm case. The solid, two-body case is polished with a rounded bezel, downturn lugs, and the crown is set with a sapphire cabochon. Boasting an elegant guilloche dial, the stage is set with painted black radial Roman numeral hour markers, complemented with blued steel hands. The inner minute track perfectly frames the 24-hour indication displayed in Arabic numerals.

    - Powered by an in-house manual winding calibre 437 movement, the present example is not just a sight to behold, but is also a reliable utility, designed for style conscious collectors.

    Cartier

    French

With the Constitution of 1848 came a new standard for luxury in France. Founded one year prior by Louis-Francois Cartier, the house of Cartier was one of the first to use platinum in jewelry making. This incredibly expensive material became the stepping-stone for Cartier to experiment in form, mechanisms and attitude. It helped men move from pocket watches to wristwatches, effectively making the watch much more functional and prominent in a man's overall wardrobe.

Cartier did not only touch on functionality. Inspired by a commissioned painting by George Barbier featuring a black panther at the feet of an elegantly bejeweled woman, Cartier began incorporating wild animals in his designs—most notably, Cartier Panthère rings, bangle bracelets and watches. Yet it wasn't until the late 1960s that the house of Cartier debuted their iconic yellow and rose gold LOVE collection, which includes the famous bracelet that only a special screwdriver can open.
