Catalogue Essay
- As one of the most important figures in the history of watchmaking, Gérald Genta is widely regarded as one of the most talented watch designers and a true legend that requires no further introduction. Pairing timeless designs with interesting complications, Genta started his eponymous brand in 1969, which was subsequently acquired by Bulgari in 2000.
- In the 1980’s, Gérald Genta was given the right from Walt Disney to incorporate iconic cartoon characters like Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Minnie Mouse in his designs, leading to the release of the Fantasy Collection, that was characterized by the combination of playful designs with high-precision mechanisms. However, these timepieces did not capture the attention of the collectors at the time when they were first presented at Basel. The Fantasy Retro Collection was inspired by the bygone era and was met with much enthusiasm on the contrary.
- The present Fantasy Retro reference was introduced in the 2000s and features a Mickey Mouse dressed as a pilot. It retains the iconic jumping hours and bi-retrograde mechanism which indicates the minutes with the articulated arm of Mickey Mouse.
- Offered in exceptional overall condition, the present timepiece is accompanied by its complete set of accessories, and is delightful addition to the collection of the bold and creative.
