It is comprised of three hard-to-find pieces, among the best re-issues they have ever done, recreating three of their most important designs from the 60's. Delve into the history of each of them as they are all foundational to what Grand Seiko is today. - Mark Cho

    - Released in 2015, the present ensemble is a part of a limited edition of 55 box-sets made in celebration of the 55th anniversary of Grand Seiko. Exclusive to the Japanese market, the collection is complete with a 2014 GS “Self-Dater" (first), a 2013 44GS (second) and a 2015 62GS (third), following the order as shown in the photograph.

    - Starting with the first, the 2014 “Self-Dater” pays tribute to the original reference (from 1964), with corresponding dimensions and distinctive case design. The radial-brushed silvered dial is refined and understated, embellished with minute divisions that subtly frames the dial. The ref. SBGV009 is also powered by one of the most sophisticated quartz movements ever produced, the Grand Seiko 9F. The movement is accurate within 10 seconds a year, with a high torque motor and adjustment screw for regulation, accounting for quartz drift. The present example is numbered 1158 of a limited edition of 1200 pieces.

    - Moving on to the 2013 44GS, the ref. SBGW047 references one of Grand Seiko's most treasured icons, the 1967 44GS. The initial concept is heavily focused on the case, which is mirrored in this 2013 reissue. Adhering strongly to its predecessor, its stainless steel case measures at 37.9mm in diameter, with a similar Grand Seiko seal on its caseback. The present model displays a clean dial layout with highly-polished steel hands of hours minutes and center seconds, powered by a self-winding cal. 9S64. Numbered 658 of 700 pieces only, the ref. SBGW047 is a rare specimen that will certainly please connoisseurs of Grand Seiko.

    - Concluding the collection, the Grand Seiko 2015 62GS reminisces the original 62GS, from 1967. The last member of the three “samurais” was unveiled at the 2015 Baselworld, in honour of the 55th anniversary of Grand Seiko. The bezel-free case is slightly larger than the original and measures to 37.6mm to adapt to its larger movement. It has a box-shaped sapphire crystal placed directly onto the case, with structured lugs and polished surfaces throughout. The case is finished with the zaratsu technique, widely used for Japanese artisanal swords. Like its previous generation, the 2015 62GS positions the crown at 4 o’clock. This clever hack was initially designed to signify automatic-winding and serves as less obstructive crown that enhances comfort on the wrist. Parallel to the original, the Grand Seiko crest is embossed on its caseback, concealing its automatic 9S65 movement within. Rarest of all three models, the ref. SBGR095 is numbered 558 of a limited edition of 600 pieces only.

    - Each on their own, a rare limited edition, this is the ideal opportunity for collectors to acquire all three of the magnificent reissues of Grand Seiko’s most revered vintages, delivered as a complete boxset with its original accessories.
