“Our aim is to create enticing photographs that point towards the desires in our photo-saturated culture and also a bit towards the absurdity of it all.”
—Inka & Niclas
Created in Tenerife in 2018, 4K Ultra HD II (Tropical) by Scandinavian artist duo Inka (b.1985) & Niclas (b.1984) is a mesmerising landscape with a single palm tree at centre, bathed in sunset hues of pink, orange and yellow. For their project 4K ULTRA HD, a term used in the industry for screens with extremely clear picture quality, the artists created landscape representations that destabilised the generic, repetitive motifs – sunsets, palm trees or night skies – populating our screens. The transformation of the image occurs at the moment of exposure. ‘Our tiny flash colours the tree in the hues of the sunset for less than a 300th of a second,’ explains the duo. ‘We cannot see it happening with our own eyes.’ Based in Stockholm, Inka & Niclas have exhibited widely and works from their 4K ULTRA HD project reside at Moderna Museet, Stockholm and the Gothenburg Museum of Art.
This offering marks the artist duo’s debut at auction.
