-Introduced in 1999, the IWC Deep One was the first wristwatch in the world to have the combination of mechanical depth gauge, maximum depth display and a rotating bezel to show dive time. It is a "holy grail" of sorts to IWC collectors. The Deep One was part of IWC’s GST (Gold, Steel, Titanium) sport watch line.
-Depth is calculated through a Bourdon tube which can be found within the case - it is like a mechanical pressure-sensing element. When water enters the coil tube, the tube becomes rigid. The pressure is then indicated on the dial with a white skeletonized arrow hand. When one pushes the crown at 4 o’clock the calibration of the depth hands resets to zero. The Bourdon tube inside the Deep One was created by non other than Richard Habring himself. Given the labour intensive process of creating the wristwatch, it is rumoured that less than 1000 examples were produced.
-The present example is preserved in excellent and barely worn condition and is offered as an extremely full set with its International Guarantee dated May 26, 2000, product literature, additional strap, presentation box and outer packaging.
