The story of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso started long before the present watch. With its innovation to its iconic design derived from the lawns of a polo match in India, a Swiss businessman was eager to solve the issue of the perfect watch to wear during the match that would be able to withstand shock with a hint of elegance. The initial idea was to place a barred cage on top of the crystal to prevent breakage, however with a lack of elegance, the idea was scrapped. The fathomable idea of constructing a reversible case where the dial side can be flipped over with the caseback facing up to protect the crystal from shock was officially submitted for patent approval on 4th March 1931: “A watch capable of gliding in its carriage and turning over on itself completely.” The Reverso was born.

Introduced to the public in 2006, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Triptyque celebrated the 75th anniversary of the paramount model of the house, Reverso. Named the Triptyque, it comprises 18 incredible complications, and was the first ever to feature three dials on the iconic oversized Reverso case. With a complicated movement composed of 650 individual components, a twin barrel is fitted to power the 18 complications featured and still maintaining a comfortable 48-Hour power reserve. With most generic dual-faced wristwatches featuring an irreversible dial on the caseback side, the Reverso boasts its mechanical excellence in transfusing power from the caliber to the carriage, even when reversed. On the main dial, it features the time, a 2-Day power reserve indication, 24-Hours indication and the impressive tourbillon regulator. Once reversed, the second dial features complicated indications such as the archeological chart of the Northern Hemisphere with specific calibration to Hong Kong, zodiac calendar, equation of time and sunrise and sunset. Lastly, the dial featured on the inner carriage displays a perpetual calendar, moon phases and leap year indication. One can only imagine the extreme micro engineering intricacies required to execute such feat to combine all elements of traditional watchmaking and contemporary technological innovations. With all three dials visible and practical without having to take the watch off one’s wrist is simply an artistry to admire and develop from. With an approximated six long years for the team at Jaeger-LeCoultre to develop and execute the impressive Triptyque, it is without a doubt one of the most coveted and complicated wristwatches manufactured by the firm.

The present example belongs to the limited edition series made to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Reverso and is numbered 66 out of 75 pieces. A magnificent opportunity for admirers of the intricate art of complicated wristwatches to acquire an important milestone example of one of the most complicated Reverso wristwatch manufactured by no other than Jaeger-LeCoultre.

    Jaeger-LeCoultre

    Swiss • 1833

Not all companies in the watchmaking field have been able to stand the test of time quite like Jaeger LeCoultre, also known as the "watchmaker's watchmaker." Founded in 1833 by Antoine LeCoultre and originally named LeCoutre, the firm provided watchmaking's top brands, such as Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin and Audemars Piguet, the high-grade, unfinished mechanical movements with which they completed their watches.

In the early 1900s, Cartier's watch supplier Edmond Jaeger sought out LeCoultre's help in creating the world's thinnest watches. The collaboration resulted in the creation of Cartier's earliest Tank and Santos watches, all housed with LeCoultre movements. The duo decided to merge in 1937, and the firm officially became the Jaeger-LeCoultre brand by which collectors know and adore it today. Some of the firm's most significant and important timepieces include the Reverso, the Memovox, the Atmos clock and, among modern watches, their Master Complications.
