"I've stripped away the baroque, balletic gestures of before, going back to something more fundamental and essential." —Jason Martin
Martin’s minimalist paintings of luscious, swirling forms are a product of a controlled use of colour and brush. To create such rich monochromatic, pure pigment works, the artist applies colour to moulded panels. The shape, inseparable from the movement and texture of the paint, is so malleable it carries a strong, expressive quality. The result is a composition which appears like a detailed close-up of a painter’s palette.
