Kati Tuominen-Niittylä is a world-renowned ceramic artist specialized in creating thin-walled vessels inspired by baskets from ancient times.
With this piece, the artist is trying to reach the pure, archaic idea of a vessel, pushing the form to the absolute essential. The scene is therefore left to very deep whites and grays, recalling the light and landscapes of Nordic forests. These minimal colors are applied to the surface in a sort of meditative practice, ensuing a raw yet sophisticated artwork with an elegant feel.
Kati Tuominen-Niittylä's work is present in permanent collections of many public institutions including the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, the Finnish State Collections, and the Shigaraki Cultural Park Museum in Japan.
