This artwork is made from plastic bottles and is part of a series of sculptural face-shields created during the height of the pandemic lockdown. A wearable piece of art, Frankenstein is typical of the three-dimensional works created by Leeroy New which inhabit the viewer’s space, creating an intimate physical relationship between the audience and artwork. New has become renowned for his elaborate sculptures which transform discarded materials into poignant works of art. These works compel us to examine the quantity of waste generated in our daily lives and the impact of this on our environment.

New is a multidisciplinary artist at the forefront of Filipino contemporary art. Internationally renowned, he has received several accolades for his artworks which continuously seek to push boundaries. Initially drawn to creating sculptures, New’s practice has since expanded to encompass large-scale immersive environments, costume, video works and product design. He has staged numerous exhibitions and public art projects, including the Psychopomp's Reef installation for Bonifacio Global City's Offsite public gallery in 2011, and was invited to participate in the 2008 Singapore Biennale and the 2009 Fukuoka Asian Art Triennale.
