Internationally renowned American artist Paul Rousso is well known for his concept of “flat depth”, which expresses how three-dimensional objects may be collapsed and rendered in a two-dimensional form. Reminiscent of 20th century pop art, Rousso’s works are inspired by the works of Dr. Seuss and Roy Lichtenstein. Depicting a flattened banknote from Bhutan, Two Dragons reflects the artist’s fascination with the history of paper and its uses, especially its rise and fall within the fields of advertising, news and magazine distribution, and as a form of currency.
Now famed for his hyperrealistic and larger-than-life Pop Art-inspired sculptures, Rousso only became a full-time artist after a prolific career as an art director and illustrator working for companies such as Condé Nast and Bloomingdales. Alongside local and international exhibitions, his artworks can be found in private collections in North America, Europe and the Middle East.
