Mikael Jansson - SPOTLIGHT: Photographs from A Private London Collection Online Auction London Friday, July 7, 2023 | Phillips
  • “I like to capture the moment.”
    —Mikael Jansson

Swedish photographer Mikael Jansson (b. 1958) captures actresses Léa Seydoux and Adèle Exarchopoulos for the November 2013 issue of Interview Magazine (Lots 34-36). These spellbinding works express a rare freedom of expression and intimacy between two women. The pair played leading parts in Abdellatif Kechiche’s award-winning film Blue Is the Warmest Colour, a pioneering LGBTQ+ film that left its mark on a generation. Imbuing a sense of authenticity into each work, Jansson thematically mirrors the narrative of the film whilst using the actresses’ real names in the titles, grounding the images in the ‘off-screen’ world.
