Launched in 2012, the reference 5204 is the successor of the reference 5004. With a newly designed case and a refined dial, the 5204 maintains certain traits as the 5004, although much has been changed. The case size was enlarged from 36.7 millimeters to 40 millimeters with regards to keeping up to date with the current trend for larger watches. The hour markers have also been refined from the Arabic numerals seen on the 5004 to now baton numerals seen in the current reference 5204. The most significant change on the dial from the previous reference is the positioning of the moon phase indicator, as it is now upside down and ironically resembling a "smile". Housed inside the significantly larger case is the new Patek Philipe in-house cal. CHR 29-535 PS Q. The caliber in the previous reference was essentially a heavily modified Lemania based caliber 27-70 Q.

The 5204R was introduced 4 years after the launch of the first model in platinum, in Baselworld 2016. The present example is single sealed and has never been opened. The watch is completely brand new with the full set of accessories including the original Certificate of Origin.
