  • Catalogue Essay

The Dutch artists of Studio Drift aim to create designs which reconnect humans with nature through thoughtful applications of technology to demonstrate a utopian vision for the future of our planet. In the present Fragile Future chandelier, dandelion seeds have been carefully hand-picked and glued individually to LED lights within the intricate copper lattice framework. The lightweight form is intentionally delicate to draw a parallel to the world’s fragile ecosystem and highlights the interconnectivity of humanity with nature through the use of exposed technological components intertwined with dried florals. The piece proposes that we see technology as a possible extension for nature, rather than an opponent to it. While poetic and meaningful through the selected medium, the work is also elegant and visually appealing in its graceful appearance.
