Abstract painting has been a focus within Syagini Ratna Wulan’s artistic practice since 2016. Whilst her previous work has been characterised by a non-linear approach, more recently she has been focusing on interplays of light, colour and perception, and has been influenced by natural phenomena such as rainbows and spectral colours. Created from panels of plexiglass and arranged in a triptych format, Aether Atrium seems to blur not only pastel hues, but also the boundary between painting and sculpture.

Based in Bandung, Indonesia, Syagini received a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts from the Bandung Institute of Technology in 2001 and went on to complete a Master’s Degree in Cultural Studies at Goldsmiths College in London. She has also been involved in numerous exhibitions domestically and abroad, such as the recent 10th Asia Pacific Triennale hosted in 2021. She has presented three solo shows to date.
