  • Catalogue Essay

    - Marking the end of a century, the Vacheron Constantin Saltarello was a limited edition series launched during 1999. Produced in 200 pieces each across three metals: Yellow gold and white gold both were fitted with a silver dial, the present example with a pink on pink combination stands out from its peers.

    - Featuring jumping hours and retrograde minutes into one, the Saltarello was the firm’s first of combining the two remarkable functions.

    - Framed by its elegant pink gold cushion-shaped case, the rich salmon dial is finished with a hand guilloché that fans out to complement the retrograde minutes with highly legible numerals alternating between sizes.

    - At the heart of this marvel ticks the ultra-thin calibre 1120/2 that carries the symbol of excellence, the Geneva seal. Beating at a frequency of 2.75 hz with a power reserve of 40 hours, the movement is adorned with a meticulously executed Côtes de Genève motif.

    - A calibre that was fitted in many iconic references by Vacheron Constantin such as the Mercator, Patrimony Traditionnelle and Overseas, the movement features a Gyromax balance and an open-worked oscillating weight decorated with the Maltese cross.

    - Numbered 179 of a limited edition of 200 pieces, this is a superb neo-vintage gem that is truly underrated.

  • Artist Biography

    Vacheron Constantin

    Swiss • 1755

The world's oldest watch brand in continuous operation since its founding in 1755, Vacheron Constantin was the first watch company to manufacture movements with interchangeable parts beginning in 1839. Vacheron's watches are admired for their Latin-influenced case designs, well-balanced proportions and exquisitely finished movements of the highest quality. The Geneva-based manufacturer is known for their highly complicated masterpieces, including the King Farouk Grand Complication made in 1935, the Tour de l'Ile that was the most complicated serially produced wristwatch when introduced in 2005 and the 57260 — the world’s most complicated watch — made in 2015.

Key vintage models include minute repeating wristwatches such as the references 4261, chronographs such as the references 4178 and 6087 and the oversized Cioccolotone models such as ref. 4737. Collectors also appreciate Vacheron's Chronometer Royal pocket and wristwatches, as well as the '222,' the brand's first luxury sports watch produced from 1977 through 1984.
