Wang Yin - 20th Century & Contemporary Art & Design Day Sale in Association with Poly Auction Hong Kong Thursday, December 3, 2020 | Phillips
  • “I think painting can only offer one kind of information— that is, your continued experience of it. Or, it can offer just a state, the exact content or message of which is not that important.” — Wang Yin

Born in Ji’nan, Shandong and growing up in Qingdao, Beijing-based Wang Yin has established himself as one of China’s foremost intellectual artists. Dedicated to long-term research into issues of history and ideology, he has a strong fondness for Chinese art history, especially the modern history of Chinese oil paintings. Wang Yin was taught to paint in the Soviet Realist style and trained with the Western techniques of oil painting and linear perspectives. Thus Wang Yin’s creative practice is a mixture of both exploration and re-creation of Chinese art history. Although greatly influenced by Chinese art history, his work also moves in a different aesthetic direction from his peers. Wang’s subjects are always anonymous people, objects and places. Flowers combines traditional Chinese floral motifs with a Western perspective, consequently challenging contemporary viewers’ perceptions.
