"I aim to visualize all those encounters with many ‘nows’, from past to present, through the filter of my mind by projecting the phenomenon itself onto [my] works. Through art, [I] continue to question the subtleties of existence." —Yukimasa Ida
Born in Japan in 1990, Yukimasa Ida’s recent works have focused on the concept of ‘ICHI-GO-ICHI-E’ (a once-in-a-lifetime moment) – namely the idea that ‘now’ does not come around twice. With their flurries of vibrant colour and rich impasto, Ida’s paintings are vivid snapshots in time. Born in the idyllic seaside town of Tottori, a vision of “ocean, mountains and rivers framed with beautiful sunsets and nature”, those early memories of ‘the colour of nature’ have left their mark on his distinctive oeuvre. i
