“There are 360 degrees, so why stick to one?”
—Zaha Hadid
Zaha Hadid’s Seamless furniture collection constituted the Iraqi-born, London-based architect’s first stand-alone collection of furniture, with previous designs having been created only for site-specific projects. An extension of her architectural practice’s exploration into a world of “seamless fluidity,” her office described the venture as “a built manifesto towards the potential for a new language of design and architecture, which is driven by the latest in digital design processes and the most cutting edge manufacturing techniques.” The limited-edition series comprised five different furniture designs – a chair, a chaise, a set of stools, and shelves – all of which exhibit Hadid’s forward-thinking design language of curvilinearity and seamlessness.
Another Gyre chaise from the edition is in the permanent collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
