Depicting the interior of a darkened apartment at night, Silent Night is typical of the vibrant and intricate pictorial spaces crafted by Carlo D’Anselmi, presenting a harmonious universe where humans, flora and fauna coexist. In contrast to the brightly lit exterior, the vast indoor environment is composed primarily of green and blue tones that heightens the quietness and isolation felt at night. But while the figure at the far right is barely visible, the peacefully sleeping dog and warm hues in the bottom half of the canvas also suggest a sense of cosiness within a well-lived space. Creating dialogue between darkness and light, interior and exterior, D’Anselmi cleverly encapsulates the trivial yet intimate details of everyday life.
Living and working in Queens, New York, Carlo D’Anselmi graduated with a BA in Fine Arts from Saint Anselm College, Manchester, and an MFA in Painting from The New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting & Sculpture, New York. He has since held solo exhibitions at Thierry Goldberg Gallery, New York; The Cabin, Los Angeles, CA; and Pamela Salisbury Gallery, New York amongst others.
